Fundraise

Join one of our events or create your own!

Individual fundraisers make a huge difference, contributing millions to the UK charity sector each year.

We would love for you to join one of our regular fundraising events, which have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for London homelessness services. Our Sleep-out and Night Walk are open to anyone - all you need to do is sign up and get fundraising!

Alternatively, you could take part in another organised event such as a 10K run or cycle race, with Streets of London as your chosen charity. Or you could create your own event or do something else of your own choosing (it could be anything from to a sponsored silence to a parachute jump or sky-dive!).

Once you've chosen what you'd like to do, you can set up a fundraising page on JustGiving and then ask your family and friends to dig deep! Let us know what you're doing by getting in touch or tagging us on social media. We're really grateful to everyone who makes the effort to raise money for Streets of London, however you choose to do it!

Here are some tips to help with your fundraising...

Pick your event

Do you want to join an organised event or create your own? Local races and challenge events are a great opportunity to do some fundraising by asking people you know to sponsor you.

However, there are lots of creative ways to fundraise that don't require physical training! A quick online search will turn up loads of ideas and suggestions. You don't always need to create an event from scratch, either; it can be easy to add a fundraising element to an existing event, e.g. by donating some or all of the proceeds. Here are just a few of the possibilities:

  • Pub quiz - Always a popular option. Give your friends a chance to show off their obscure knowledge.
  • Organise a cake sale - get your friends to help with baking. Aim for a Friday when people are getting ready for the weekend.
  • Host a film night - turn your house or local venue into a cinema for the night, and invite people to watch a film for a donation.
  • Breakfast club - sell bacon rolls, croissants or pastries to your work colleagues.
  • Hold a wine/beer/cheese tasting and sell tickets.
  • Competition - run a sweepstake or maybe a pool competition.
  • Car boot sale - have a clear out and add to your fundraising target by selling your items at a local car boot sale, or on eBay.

Decide how you'll collect money

If you're doing a sponsored event, setting up an online fundraising page is the easiest way to collect money. Our preferred provider is JustGiving, which is straightforward for users and affordable for the charity.

If you're doing a ticketed event or one where people are buying items or making donations, the simplest thing to do is make a donation for the total amount collected to Streets of London once the event is completed.

Get the word out

The more people you tell about your fundraising, the more you're likely to raise. Don't be shy - you're doing something for a good cause and people can choose whether to get involved or not. So send an email, post on social media, get in touch via WhatsApp, put up a poster, etc! Try to make it personal - why is this cause meaningful for you? You could include a link to some information about homelessness, or to our Projects page to show how the money helps people.

Here some other top tips:

  1. Be persistent - busy people won’t always get round to sponsoring you the first time you ask, so remind them what you’re doing and why. Don’t worry about sending a request more than once, it usually takes a couple of e-mails for people to take action.
  2. Carry on up to and after the event - take photos if possible and let people know how it went
  3. Write about your experience afterwards - a big thank you email can generate more sponsorship.
  4. Work signature - add your fundraising page and a brief message, so more people see it.
  5. When you're e-mailing work colleagues to ask for sponsorship, try to time your e-mail to coincide with pay-day (cheeky but effective!)
  6. Match funding - check if your employer will match the amount you raise. It's a quick and easy way to double your total.
