Hospitality training programme
Personalised and professional hospitality training
Grant £15,000
Stable employment is one of the surest routes out of homelessness, not just because it provides income, but also because it can help someone to regain their independence and their self-belief. It provides opportunities for a person to develop their abilities, as well as meaningful relationships with others.
The supported employment programme at the Margins Project in Islington offers professional hospitality training to people who have experienced homelessness, which is supported and tailored to their individual needs. Trainees receive mentoring and other forms of personalised support, while providing catering services at Union Chapel, where the project is based. They provide services both to the project’s drop-in café for homeless people as well as to audiences attending music gigs and other events at the venue.
Trainees are supported into long-term employment or further training through the project’s extensive network of local partners. The programme takes a very person-centred approach, and as a respected arts venue with numerous local partnerships, offers trainees a variety of opportunities to explore and build on their strengths. By working together to recognise and realise each person’s potential, the programme empowers those involved to find their own pathway out of homelessness.
