Migrant support

Specialist advice for complex immigration cases

Grant £15,000

Immigration cases can be difficult to navigate at the best of times. For those who are homeless they add another layer of complexity to an already challenging situation and can make getting off the streets even harder. Many people need support understanding their situation and what they need to do to address it. Unresolved immigration issues are often a barrier to housing, employment and support and can prolong someone’s homelessness.

At Glass Door in Fulham, a Migrant Project Caseworker (MPC) is able to provide specialist support to those with complex immigration cases. The MPC works one-to-one with clients to understand their immigration status, as well as other issues they may be facing, such as mental health or addiction problems. They can then work with the person to develop a holistic plan for supporting their needs and taking action on their immigration case. The work of the MPC is integrated across the organisation to ensure a full picture of each person’s needs, as well as helping other caseworkers understand immigration issues. Supporting people to resolve their immigration status helps give them greater stability, so they can continue working to end their homelessness.
